The Process

PROBLEMS IN ONLINE LEARNING OBSERVED BY THE ORGANIZE ME TEAM

The team agreed that the college experience is much harder online, especially in relation to tracking timetables.

The general consensus was that it took a long time to get the right timetable which could be easily fixed if it was on an app used by everyone, constantly getting updated online.

The team noticed how non major assignments/tasks such as readings were not getting done, due to the reason that there was simply not a place where all this work could be displayed.

Taking that into account, the team suggested to create an app for an online homework journal. The idea was simply at the beginning, but more cunning additions were added later into the process due to background user testing, prototype user testing and brainstorming.

Following these observations, the team surveyed a sample of  22 students aged 18-25. The survey goal was to understand the issues with online learning  experienced by the target user group.

WHAT DID THE STUDENTS SAY ABOUT ISSUES IN ONLINE LEARNING?

“I don’t even know what I’m supposed to be doing most of the time.”

After taking notes of the problems students are facing, the team decided to ask them about their preference on certain app features.

Here are the results summarized.

Would  an app with daily reminders of work to complete be helpful for you? Like a homework journal.

yes - 18 participants

no - 4 participatns

From the user survey data collected, the team identified the problems of the target user group and began working on solutions.

First Step: Define The Problem

1.  LACK OF MOTIVATION

2. POOR TIME MANAGEMENT

3. POOR ORGANIZATION SKILLS

4. UNCERTAINTY

From the student survey conducted, it has become clear that potential users are struggling with motivation, time management, organisation and are not always clear on what tasks to do.

Second Step: Propose solutions

As this is multifaceted problem, it requires multiple solutions entwined into one app.

TASK CLARITY

The proposed solution utilizes task hierarchy through a notifications page so that users know exactly what has to be done by when. Users get a notification when new work is added and for impending deadlines.

This was just the beginning of the Organize ME prototype creation.

Software utilized

User personas were created with Extensio.  Miro was used to create user journey maps, as a means to improve the flow within the prototype. The screens for the high-fidelity prototype were created in canva. Invision was used to create the interactive high-fidelity prototype. The video demo of the interactive app was created using xbox game bar recorder.
